We didn't need the shelter it provided. It was heated in the most primitive way we had ever seen: by fire under a pile of stones, with no smokestack. Smoke comes into the hut and is ventilated away. When the fire dies, door is closed and the heat is kept in. Structure like this needs nothing you can't find from the taiga.
